The International Institute for Buddhist Studies (abbreviated as IIBS) focuses its activities on Buddhist philology. At the same time, it also aims to study Buddhist culture in all its aspects from an interdisciplinary perspective.
One of its main activities is to host lectures by eminent foreign scholars with a view to contributing to international academic exchanges and offering the latest information on current scholarly research.
Another major function is to invite promising scholars from abroad as research fellows. Many of our former research fellows have now become leading scholars in their own fields.
Our Institute has also published over sixty titles which have attained world-wide reputation. They include publications in the following series: Kasuga Lectures Series, Studia Philologica Buddhica (Monograph and Occasional Paper Series), Bibliographia Philologica Buddhica (Series Maior/Minor), and Bibliographia Indica et Buddhica.
These activities of the Institute keep students in touch with up-to-date research in Indology and Buddhist studies.
