Library Guide for Current ICPBS Members (Faculty, Staff, and Students)

Library hours

OpenMonday through Friday (during semester): 10:00 - 18: 00
ClosedSaturdays and Sundays, National holidays, Year-end and New Year's holidays,
18 May (Anniversary of the founding of the college), and inventory periods.
(During spring, summer, and winter vacations, library hours change to a different schedule.)

Library Services

Faculty, staff, and students (regular students, research students, and auditors) have access to read and make photocopies of the entire collection of the Library with the exception of a limited number of special materials. Faculty, staff, and students may also borrow any books and materials which do not belong to special collections by following the borrowing procedure required by the Library. (See table below)

* For reading microfilms, microfiches, and special materials such as rare books, traditionally bound books, i.e. Japanese, Indian, Tibetan, etc., please ask the Library staff.

* Photocopying should not exceed the limits set by the current laws and regulations for the copyright protection.

* Special borrowing policy applies only to faculty members and staff who are allowed to borrow books and materials for class usage or long-term research projects.

* During the spring, summer, and winter vacations, the number of volumes which can be borrowed remains the same but the period of borrowing is subject to change.

* In case a book or material is currently checked out, you may make a reservation at the Service Counter (1st floor).

*On the 1st floor, we can provide a special PC terminal on which the digital version of the Wenyuan-ge Siku quanshu 文淵閣四庫全書 電子版 is available for viewing and copying. Please ask the Library staff for assistance.

Reference Assistance and Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Services

The Library staff can help with the following services:

  • directions concerning facilities as well as books and materials location
  • searching for books and materials in our collection
  • bibliographical surveys and information on relevant books and materials
  • searching for materials in other libraries (in case our Library does not possess a copy of the book or material requested by you)
  • requesting photocopies of materials from other libraries (in case our Library does not possess a copy of the book or material requested by you)
  • issuing letters of introduction for other libraries (in case you wish to read books or materials in other libraries)

* Please feel free to ask our staff for any further details concerning the above services.

Prohibited Items

You are requested to refrain from the following acts:

  • damaging Library property such as books, materials, equipment, etc.
    In case you damage, deface, or lose a book or material, you shall immediately notify the Director of the Library. It is incumbent upon you to reimburse the Library for the damage or loss by providing a similar copy of the book or document. In case the purchase of such a copy is not possible, you shall pay an amount corresponding to the estimated price of the book or document.
  • bringing inside the Library any personal belongings like bags, etc. which are not absolutely necessary for reading or making photocopies. (For keeping personal belongings, you are advised to use the lockers located at the Library entrance.)
  • using personal computers outside designated areas.
  • making noise (The use of mobile phones in the Library is strictly prohibited.).
  • eating, drinking, and smoking on the Library premises.
